1. I just added Dream Whip No. 14 by Bill Brown to my LibraryThing.

  2. My photo of the Rainforest Cafe sign in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas appears on the “Las Vegas for Kids” page on “whygo Las Vegas,” a travel info. site.  I think the picture is a little blurry, but it’s cool that they used it.

  3. France Trip #4

Went to Versailles this morning. Very nice-yet-ornate. Bought more postcards. Hiked up Montmartre (took the route of St. Denis). I should have drank more water. Sacre-Couer was beautiful. I wish more churches looked like it. Went to the Salvador Dali museum. Museum was very nice. Lots of melting clocks and women with drawers in their torsos. Most did not want to go, but Ms. Beazley took a few of us who did to Père Lachaise, the cemetery. We found Jim Morrison’s grave (many of the doors to the crypts in the cemetery have been stolen). Also saw the grave of Chopin.

Came back to hotel, left for dinner. Had white wine with beef burgundy. After dinner, went to Eiffel Tower and went up in it. We went to the top, but Beazley chickened out. Finally got back to hotel @ midnight. Have to get up at six to go to Normandy.

  4. France Trip #3

Got up, ate breakfast, went on bus tour of Paris. Saw most monuments. Got pix in front of Eiffel Tower.

Went to Louvre. Saw Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. Not that impressive in person. Ate lunch at Louvre. Went to Centre Pompidou, but Andrea, Stephanie, and I decided to shop for souvenirs instead. I bought prints for people.

Oh yeah, also went to Notre Dame today. It was very nice. Took lots of pix.

Ate dinner: pasta and pork. Went to Hard Rock Café. Bought shirt, guitar-pin, and shot glass.

Time to sleep now. Versailles & Eiffel Tower tours tomorrow.

  5. France Trip #2

Arrived at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris at approximately 9:00am Paris time (2:00am Lubbock time). Took luggage to hotel, but couldn’t check in yet. Went to the Musée d’Orsay, saw Whistler’s Mother and other neat artworks. Hung out with Andrea and Stephanie (at the museum and most of the rest of the day).

Looked for l’Hôtel des Invalides with Beazley. Couldn’t find it. Paid 54 francs (about 10 dollars) for a croque monsieur and a Pepsi (yuk!) at a café. Finally found les Invalides; we all decided to just go back and check in at hotel. Got lost on Métro, finally made it to hotel at about 5:00pm. Had to be ready for dinner at six fifteen. Big hassle about keys. Beazley got mad at hotel employees. Couldn’t find my room. Finally got in and had time to change shirt only before time to eat dinner. Ate chicken (turkey?) w/ French fries. Split a bottle of wine (more like a pint) with Andrea. It was supposed to cost 20 fr., but we somehow managed not to pay it.

Some of us walked back to the hotel (some were riding the Metro because this girl Renée thinks she broke her toe and can’t walk). Our whole group opted not to take the bâteau mouche boat tour tonight with the other groups cuz we were too tired. This means we can do it the last Saturday, the last night we have in Paris, but I bet we won’t.

Went up to my room, showered, put on fresh clothes, drank water and opened window, finally got used to temperature. Going to read a while more (it’s now 10:00pm local and I’ve got to get up by 8:00am) and go to sleep. All in all, despite it’s setbacks (the aforementioned & the 18 postcards for 10 fr. that are not perforated and are therefore permanently stuck together) and annoyances, the first “superday” (9th & 10th, all rolled into one) has been pretty good. Oh well, I’ll write more tomorrow.

P.S. – I share a room w/ this guy named Jason. He’s from Kansas. He seems pretty nice. Our group is attached to their group and two others (cuz we’re all really small).

  6. France Trip #1

After staying up until 4:00am, I woke up to the doorbell at 8:00am. Or was it Mom waking me? Anyway, I awoke.

Mom took me to the airport; we (the group and I, not Mom and I) flew to Houston where we ate lunch during our 4 hour layover. From there, we took a 9 hour (or so) flight on Air France. The Dutchman sitting next to me was not very conducive to my attempts to sleep (he’d talk w/ his wife and/or kids, or turn on his light to read). Anyway, this kind of blends into the next day
